At Zumo, we feel as passionately about protecting and nurturing our environment as we do about cryptocurrency. We proudly support WasteAid - a young, dynamic and independent charity based in the UK, but with global reach.
WasteAid works with local communities to implement waste management and recycling programmes in some of the world’s poorest places, helping to improve people’s health and livelihoods, tackling climate change and preventing plastic from entering our oceans.
"Although blockchain technology and waste management may appear to have different purposes, in reality they are both about empowering communities and creating sustainable livelihoods, at scale.” - says Nick Jones, Co-founder of Zumo.
As part of our ongoing support of WasteAid, we are working on a feature that will allow Zumo app users to make micro-donations with every transaction directly via the Zumo wallet. In the meantime, you can give to WasteAid by donating directly via their website.
Walking for WasteAid
Following on from a very successful virtual walk from Edinburgh to Cameroon in the midst of lockdown last year, the Zumo team’s next challenge for 2021 will be a WasteAid fundraising and awareness walk, which will take place in Edinburgh on Sunday 3 October.
Members of the Zumo team will complete a 16.5-mile loop starting in vibrant Stockbridge and ending in our home base of Leith. We’ll be aiming to engage with the public and collect donations all along the way - so look out for the Zumo T-shirts and possibly the appearance of a Zumo mascot! The aim is to raise £5000 in support of WasteAid by the end of 2021.
Do donate via our JustGiving page if you can!
We would never expect our users to give to charity without doing so ourselves and, as well as donating to WasteAid as a company, we also want to show that we mean business when it comes to tackling pollution.
In 2020, the Zumo team completed a virtual walk from Edinburgh, Scotland to Cameroon, Africa to raise awareness for WasteAid. This challenge was no mean feat, with a staggering distance of approximately 3,680 miles between the two locations, but we rose to the challenge and raised over £4000 in the process.
The Zumo team supports WasteAid in its ongoing efforts to rid the planet of pollution. We are doing all we can to support WasteAid in their work to improve livelihoods and contribute to a cleaner and healthier future for all.
Our partnership with WasteAid is one of common values: developing countries are driving global consumer demand for digital payments platforms like never before. These markets are expected to account for around half of all non-cash transactions worldwide and, for the communities in these markets, cryptocurrency payments can reduce the use of plastics and also protect the communities that need it most from the security risks associated with physical cash.
Zumo is working alongside WasteAid to empower communities and, with the future launch of micro-donation functionality via the Zumo app planned in to the product development roadmap, we intend to give everyone the opportunity to join us in supporting WasteAid, and utilise the power of blockchain technology for greater good.
