We've carefully curated our how to list so you can hit the ground running with the Zumo app.
Registering with Zumo is easy. In this video we'll take you through the early steps in getting your account set up.
First things first, make sure you’ve installed the Zumo app on your iOS or Android device.
Then, open the Zumo app and click on the button that says ‘Get Started’. Now it’s time to create your account.
Carefully review the terms and conditions and, when you’re done, tick the checkbox and tap ‘Agree & Confirm’. Enter your preferred username (your Zumo ID), followed by your best contact email address. Zumo will send you a verification email, so head over to your mail app and click the magic link in your inbox to complete the email verification process.
That’s it. You’re all set. Your email is registered and you’re ready to finish up activating your Zumo account.
After you’ve successfully registered your email and signed up to Zumo, you’ll need to secure your unique backup phrase. This is the private key that gives you personal custody of your cryptocurrency funds - see our guide to what exactly that means here.
First, you’ll be asked to confirm your country of residence and have the chance to choose how you’d like to hear from us.
Then comes the critical backup phrase set-up.
Carefully read the on-screen information and tap ‘I understand’ to view your 12-word backup phrase. Write down the 12 words and keep them somewhere safe. If you ever lose access to your phone or your Zumo account details, this is what you will use to restore your account. Never share your backup phrase and always keep it secure.
Confirm you have saved your backup phrase by tapping ‘I’ve saved the phrase’ and finish the process by choosing and confirming a password for your Zumo account. At this point, you’ll also have the option to create a 6-digit wallet passcode to secure your account.
The benefit of having an easy-to-use digital wallet is that it can be organised so that you don’t have to be. The Zumo wallet combines the best of both worlds, providing you with both traditional currency and cryptocurrency wallets.
All your wallets can be accessed from the ‘Smartfolio’ tab at the bottom of the Zumo app home screen, and we’re always adding new supported currencies.
Navigate between GBP (pound sterling) and crypto holdings by choosing the ‘GBP Wallet’ or ‘Crypto Wallet’ options on your Smartfolio screen.
In your sterling wallet, you have an at-a-glance overview of your pound balance, with options to easily add, withdraw, send or receive GBP funds.
Navigate to your crypto wallet and you can view your crypto wealth, and send, receive & exchange using individual cryptocurrencies.
Think of the smartfolio as your wealth dashboard.
To get the most out of Zumo, you’ll need to verify your account by confirming your identity. The good news is, the process is quick and easy and, once completed, you’ll unlock the full power of Zumo.
Get started by entering your personal details exactly as they appear on the ID you want to use to verify your account, and let us know your country of residence and postcode.
Select the document you want to use to verify your identity and follow the on-screen instructions to navigate the verification process (we’ll need a photo of your ID and a photo of yourself).
As soon as you’re done, your application will be submitted for review: in the meantime, you can keep on using the app and we’ll let you know as soon as you’re verified. Check your verification status at any time in your app settings.
How fast is a blockchain transaction and what does it cost?
When you make a transaction on the blockchain, you pay a network fee to that blockchain to process and verify the transaction. This is an external, blockchain-specific expense: Zumo has no control over these charges and we make no revenue from it.
The transaction time and the network fee you pay can vary depending on several factors: the blockchain you are using, the congestion of the network and the priority you assign to the transaction.
When you make a blockchain transaction using Zumo, you’ll be given a transparent rundown of the attached blockchain network fee required to process the transaction. The transaction itself is usually quick but can be slightly delayed if there’s a high volume of transactions and traffic on the blockchain network itself.
Zumo is completely transparent about the fees we charge.
When it comes to buying, exchanging and selling cryptocurrencies, there are two fees: the network fee and the exchange fee.
The network fee is the cost of processing the transaction on the particular blockchain network, for instance Bitcoin or Ethereum. These networks function thanks to “miners” who validate, process and keep transactions secure, and take a small fee for doing so. It’s what everybody using the blockchain has to pay, so these fees don’t come from Zumo and Zumo makes no profit from these fees.
The exchange fee is Zumo’s fee, and it's super competitive at only 0.5%.
And that’s all, as simple as that.
One of Zumo’s best features is the price alert. This will automatically notify you when the price of a cryptocurrency has reached a certain level.
First, make sure you have enabled push notifications for the Zumo app (this can be managed via the ‘Settings’ accessed via your profile at the top right of your home screen).
To set up a new price alert, tap the notification bell at the top-right of your app home screen. This will take you to your notification page, where you can see your recent activity, transactions and trades - as well as manage your price alerts.
To create a new price alert, select the ‘Price alerts’ tab and tap ‘Create Price Alert’. You’ll then be able to choose your currency and set up an alert using a sliding price scale. Simply move the needle across the scale until it reaches the price point that you would like to receive an alert for, and select a label to finish
That's it, you’ve created your price alert! When it notifies you, you can choose to either buy or sell.
Zumo makes buying, exchanging and selling your crypto quick and easy.
To make an exchange, simply navigate to the “Exchange” tab at the bottom of your home screen. Here you can select which cryptocurrency you’d like to exchange, buy or sell, as well as the historical price of each over 1-hour, 1-day, 1-week, 1-month, 3-month, and 1-year timeframes.
Once you’ve selected your currency, you’ll have the option to “buy” or “sell”, which will take you through to our transaction process.
Here, you’ll be able to select the amount you’d like to exchange, which includes a detailed fees breakdown. At Zumo we aim to make these fees as transparent as possible to our customers, and you can find out more about our fees here.
If you’re happy with the exchange, you can simply click “confirm exchange” to initiate your order. Once your order has been confirmed, you’ll receive a confirmation notification from us.
It really is as simple as that!
Sending money to someone in your Zumo contact list is super easy.
Find your contact’s name in your contact list, and tap on their name to select their account. Choose the currency you want to send, and tap ‘Next’ to initiate the transaction
See at a glance how your money on the Zumo app has performed over a selected period.
The Zumo smartfolio feature makes it even easier for you to take control of your crypto and funds.
From your app home screen, you’ll be able to instantly see your pound sterling (GBP) and crypto smartfolio holdings side by side.
To view the full details of your assets, choose the ‘Smartfolio’ option at the bottom of your home screen.
The smartfolio screen will conveniently display the total value (and growth) of your crypto assets over 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 1 year timeframes.
Your Zumo passcode protects access to your account.
To manage or reset your passcode, head to your settings by selecting your profile in the top right of your home screen and locate your ‘Security’ settings. If you have the passcode already activated, you’ll need to enter your passcode to enter this part of the app.
To reset your passcode, choose the ‘Change passcode’ option and select & confirm your new 6-digit passcode. And voila! All done.
You can convert your cryptocurrencies back into pound sterling (GBP) and withdraw to your bank with just a few clicks of the Zumo app.
To withdraw funds from your GBP wallet to your linked bank account, select ‘Smartfolio’ from the Zumo app home screen and make sure you are viewing your GBP wallet. Then tap on the ‘Withdraw’ button in the lower portion of your screen. Choose the amount you want to withdraw and hit ‘Next’ to make your transfer.
Tap ‘Send’ for your chosen amount and that’s it! Yes, it’s that simple and instant.
